Brace yourself – COPENHELL kicks off in less than a week, and it’s going to be one hell of a party!
We would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our guests about the festival’s safety rules, which are available here, as well as point out some extra important things for our festival guests to keep in mind.
A SPACE FOR EVERYONE
The goal for all music festivals is to work hard on ensuring that the festival guests have the best time possible. We have a great responsibility to give our guests a safe festival experience and maintain and develop the positive culture which COPENHELL is built on.
We tolerate no manner of harassment or hate speech at COPENHELL – whatsoever. We moderate our online channels decisively in order to create safe digital spaces with constructive conversation, and we take all inquiries about any issues during the festival very seriously.
All year round, we encourage festival guests to respect and take care of each other and help us ensure that COPENHELL is a pleasant place for everyone. Particularly also for neurodiverse persons or others who might experience difficulties being among so many people when they venture out to enjoy live music.
We encourage everyone to be a part of a good bystander culture: If you see something that is not okay, please do not hesitate to contact our crowd safety staff so they can take care of the matter. Your quick thinking and swift action will help us handle any problems that might occur during the festival.
We deeply appreciate your help making COPENHELL a safer and more secure festival for everyone – thank you!
BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS
Pickpockets are a common nuisance in the nightlife, at concerts and at festivals. Every year, COPENHELL works with the police to prevent and combat this issue during the festival, and we encourage all of our guests to keep the following in mind:
· Be especially aware of your belongings when you're in large crowds in front of the stages – pickpockets usually operate where many people are gathered
· If possible, keep your wallet, phone and other valuables in an inner pocket – and remember: a front pocket is better than a back pocket
· If you carry your belongings in a bag, you should wear/hang it in front of you in large crowds, so you can keep a better eye on it.
· Avoid storing your phone and wallet/other valuables in the same place
· Remember that pickpockets often work in pairs, where one distracts you while the other one steals your belongings. Be alert if someone clearly tries to confuse or distract you
· Shout out loud and point out the thief if you witness a pickpocketing attempt on yourself or someone else, and immediately contact the nearest COPENHELL crowd safety staff.
TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER
At COPENHELL, we strongly encourage everyone in our great festival community to take good care of each other – not just your friends, but also strangers who could be in need of help.
If you see people sleeping somewhere or who appear to be passed out, please do not hesitate to contact our crowd safety staff. Maybe they are just tired and need a quick little nap, or they may have overestimated their beer capacity – but they could also be suffering from a diabetic insuline shock or have another condition that renders them helpless or unable to take care of themselves.
In any case: Please help us help everyone – you will not have to take on the full responsibility of helping someone yourself, as you can safely let our staff take over once you call them. Remember that it is always better to do something than nothing at all.
On the same note, please be aware of the drugging phenomenon – the act of poisoning someone else’s drink. This is a serious criminal offense, and anyone caught doing this in the festival or camping area will be reported to the police by COPENHELL and expelled from the festival immediately.
Please observe the following precautions:
· We encourage all festival guests to look out for one another and to immediately inform our crowd safety staff if they witness or suspect an attempt at drugging, whether directed at themselves or someone else
· We also urge everyone attending in groups to agree in advance to keep a close eye on each other’s drinks
· If you suspect that you or a friend has been drugged at the festival, you must contact COPENHELL staff immediately. They will assist with first aid and connect you with our medics.
· If the suspicion arises later, we recommend seeking medical attention or going to the emergency room as soon as possible to get a blood test – and contacting the police to report the crime.
· Please note that our seasoned first-aiders and professionel medical team will have the Naloxone spray available – see more here
SAFE & SOUND
There is no COPENHELL without you, and we always strive give you the best possible festival experience in the best possible setting – also mentally. That’s why Safe & Sound is once again an important part of COPENHELL.
Safe & Sound is COPENHELL’s initiative to create a safer and more secure festival experience for our guests. Through Safe & Sound, we dedicate trained and visible staff solely to assist festival guests who are in acute need of aid – those who have been overwhelmed by the crowd, who are experiencing serious psychological challenges right in the middle of the festival grounds or who urgently just need to talk to someone.
Our team will be stationed in a fixed tent on the festival grounds every day between 12:00 and 01:00. We are ready to offer psychological emergency first aid. Please feel free to stop by if you have had a distressing experience and need someone to talk to away from the crowds and the noise. We also encourage everyone to approach members of our Dialogue Team if they witness any unwanted behavior at the festival.
The Safe & Sound initiative is not intended as a long-term treatment center but as an offer of help for acute psychological challenges. We have a skilled team of volunteers with the right professional backgrounds, ready to listen with open ears, minds, hearts and patience for the important conversations.
Let’s stand together behind a festival that focuses on safety and everyone’s well-being – and let’s always remember: It is completely okay not to be okay!
You can find us next to the first aid station in the festival entrance area (diagonally across from the Info Booth and the R.I.P. entrance) or approach us on the festival grounds – we are wearing light vests with “Safe & Sound” written on them.
GETTING BACK HOME
COPENHELL is located very close to Copenhagen’s city center, but a lot of traffic will be going back and forth on the narrow road to the festival site. For those of you who choose to go the festival on bike or on foot, please be very aware of traffic conditions close to the festival site.
Our traffic controllers will be on site to guide and direct everything back and forth, but we also need all of our guests to pay attention to their surroundings. Especially bicyclists and pedestrians late at night when they will be sharing the road with buses and our production traffic.
Therefore:
· Consider leaving your bike at the parking lot if you are not in a condition to ride it responsibly, and take the bus or walk instead
· If you choose to walk from the festival site late at night because you don’t want to wait for a bus during rush hour, please make sure that you walk along the sides of the road and not in the middle of it so you don’t block the traffic unnecessarily
· If you see people struggling hard to maintain balance – especially on bikes – please help them out if you can
· If you see anyone that appears uncomfortable or lost on their way to and from the festival, offer them assistance – sometimes a helpful smile and a kind voice makes all the difference
We can’t wait to see you at COPENHELL next week – we hope that you will have a great festival!
